Set Review - Series 18 Collectible Minifigures - #71021

The 18th series of collectible minifigures were released in the US on 1 April 2018.  There are 17 minifigures in this series and they retail for $3.99 in the US.  After the Ninjago movie minifigures and the second set of Batman movie minifigures, I am glad to have another original, creative set.  This series is being released along with the 40th anniversary of the minifigure so there is a party theme to celebrate.  So here they are...

The first four minifigures are costumed with tails.  The cowboy has the back half of the horse that he's riding.  The unicorn and cat just have tails.  The dragon has some impressive wings and horns on the back as well as a tail.  In keeping with the Batman Series 2 minifigures, these also all have orange base plates to stand on versus the standard black base plates in many of the past series.

series18_1.jpg

The next four all have some impressive costumes.  The first is a spider.  He has a pretty impressive spider on his back and is holding a small spider.  The next is an elephant with a tutu.  She is next to a mouse and has an alternate face where she is pretty shocked to see the mouse.  I'm a big fan of the cactus.  If you have never seen an actual Saguaro cactus up close, they are pretty impressive and some get rather tall.  I think this minifigure costume is a good representation.  Next is a firework of some sort.  The sun glasses definitely add to the costume.

series18_2.jpg

Here are four more party minifigures.  The first is a clown that makes balloon animals.  There are two balloon animals and the scale and accuracy of each were well done by the LEGO designers.  Next up is the blue brick girl.  Along with the red brick guy, they were the most numerous in the orders that I placed.  The last one to mention is the flower girl.  There's a flower costume hat and a pot to go around the pants.  This one is definitely outside the norm for what LEGO creates and I'm a fan.

series18_3.jpg

Next up are two with some bigger pieces that are quite different from the past 18 sets of minifigures.  First up is a guy popping out of a cake.  He is a full minifigure and just fits in the larger cake piece.  The splashes of frosting on his shirt are a nice touch and the gold party hat helps too.  The next one is a race car driver.  He has some creative patches on his shirt and the car looks like it could be a part of the Speed Champions line.

series18_4.jpg

Finally there is a boy who is a party attendee.  He is holding a balloon and has a gift that includes some past LEGO collectible minifigure bags.  Then there's the original LEGO policeman minfigure from back in the day holding the original set he came from.  I ended up purchasing 3 orders of 17 from LEGO Shop at Home (they only allow you to purchase 17 per order) and I only had one of the policeman minifigures.  There is a girl to attend the party too, but she did not come in the first 51 minifigures I ordered.  If I get her later, I will add her picture to this post.

series18_5.jpg

I was about to wrap things up with this post and then had to save it as a draft.  In the meantime, another order of series 18 minifigs arrived and the party girl showed up.  She is similar to the party boy only she has a purple party hat and balloon.  Her gift is full of 1x1 round tile sweet treats.

It took 4 orders of 17 minifigures from LEGO to get all 17 minifigures.  I'm thankful to have a store to sell the extras in otherwise this method is not the way to go to collect these.  With that being said though, this series is awesome.  These are some great minifigures that were creatively designed.  If you're a collector of these, I recommend picking these up over some of the past licensed minifigure sets.

Set Review - #71020 - The LEGO Batman Movie Series 2 - Collectible Minifigures

LEGO released the second series of The LEGO Batman Movie collectible minifigures on 1 January 2018.  You can see my review of the first set here.  Like the last series, this series contains 20 minifigures.  The retail price in the US is $3.99 each.  You can order a maximum of 32 from LEGO Shop at Home.  Those are the details, let's get into the minifigs...

base.jpg

First off, this set has a new base.  It's the same black color, but it's the first time that there is a logo on the base.  It will be interesting to see if LEGO continues this trend in some of their licensed collectible minifigures.

IMG_4958.JPG

First four... to be honest, it's been a few months since I have seen the LEGO Batman Movie and I don't remember any of these from the movie.  So from left to right: Doctor Phosphorus, Black Vulcan, Killer Moth, and Clock King.  Nothing too special about these minifigures in my opinion.

IMG_4955.JPG

Next set of 4... Wonder Twin Jayna, Wonder Twin Zan, Disco Harley Quinn, and Bat-Merch Batgirl.  Once again, I don't see anything too interesting about these that is different from other minifigures.

IMG_4956.JPG

To follow on... Hugo Strange, General Zod, Vacation The Joker, and Jor-El.  The Joker looks too much like the Vacation Batman from the last set with the duck floating raft.

IMG_4954.JPG

Next four are Swimsuit Batman (to include the dolphin), Mermaid Batman, Vacation Robin, and
Vacation Batgirl.  I expect both Batmans to be pretty popular as they are different from most minifigs.  While the Batgirl isn't all that exciting, she has a pony tail hair piece that attaches to her head piece which is new to me.

IMG_4957.JPG

I've purchased 64 so far and have not received all 20 minifigures.  Thanks a lot LEGO!!!!  Luckily I've put the extra in my store so it's not like they are just sitting around to collect dust.  The last 3 that I got are Apache Chief, Black Canary, and Vacation Alfred Pennyworth.  I am short Disco Alfred Pennyworth.  The Vacation version is pretty fun though.  The other 2... where were they in the movie?

My take?  Like the LEGO Ninjago movie CMFs, I was not too impressed by these minifigures.  I would have preferred another non-licensed theme of minifigs to come out versus another set of 20 Batman minifigs.  I think 20 was enough.  The only reason to get these is if you are a CMF collector like me.  Otherwise, I'd hold off.  In the meantime, I'll post the remaining minifig once I get it.

Okay, here's an update on 14 March 2018...

last_fig.jpg

I finally got the last minifig.  Disco Alfred Pennyworth.  It took three orders of 32 to get the full 16.  Definitely not worth it.  Having a store where I sell the minifigs helps, but for the average collector, don't bother with giant orders from LEGO Shop @ Home like that.

Set Review - #71019 - The LEGO Ninjago Movie Collectible Minifigures

The LEGO Ninjago Movie comes out on 22 September 2017.  Numerous set announcements have come out with sets based on the movie and you can see the trailer here.  With this movie as like the LEGO Batman and The LEGO Movie, there is another set of Collectible Minifigures.  Released on 1 August 2017, the Ninjago Movie has 20 unique minifigures.  They are $3.99 at retail price and you can order up to 40 from LEGO Shop @ Home.  Since the movie isn't out, I can't comment on any of the characters in terms of their roles in the movie, but here is what I think of the minifigures.

ninjago_cmfs1.jpg

Zane - First up on the left is Zane.  In that sweater, he looks like he could win an ugly sweater contest.

Lloyd Garmadon is next in the middle. I like the bowl and spoon although the spoon is pretty big compared to the bowl.

GPL Tech -  This character is great!  The huge glasses and lab coat, laptop, and coffee mug.  Nice!

ninjago_cmf2.jpg

Jay Walker - The selfie stick is a nice touch.

Misako - Has there been a character with that color orange hair yet?

Shark Army General #1 - I'm curious to see the movie to find out what this character is about.

ninjago_cmf3.jpg

Gong & Guitar Rocker - Is LEGO running out of ideas.  How many rockers have we had in the past?  Let's see, we've got the Rock Star from Series 12, the Monster Rocker from Series 14, and Glam Metal Batman from The LEGO Batman Movie.  I think they need to start coming up with some other ideas.

N-POP Girl - The Uni-Kitty shirt is nice.  I almost missed it at first.  Her hair, while a different color, is the same as Nurse Harley Quinn from The LEGO Batman Movie.  Her skirt/tutu looks familiar too.

Cole - I don't remember the last time I saw an old school stereo like that.

ninjago_cmf4.jpg

Master Wu - This is a great character.  I like the hat and the box of corn flakes.

Sushi Chef - Now I'm going to have to make a sushi restaurant.  The little rolls are a nice addition to the figure.

Lloyd - This series comes with 2 Lloyds.  This figure has a hair piece and then a mask piece.

ninjago_cmf5.jpg

Garmadon, Flashback Garmadon, Volcano Garmadon: The 2 torsos are a first for any of the collectible minifigure series releases as far as I know.  I like the taller figure design.  I wonder if we'll see this method more often in the future?

ninjago_cmf6.jpg

Shark Army Great White, Shark Army Angler, and Shark Army Octopus are some different characters for sure.  The octopus is the first time I've seen one of the LEGO guns that shoots a 1x1 round tile piece.

ninjago_cmf7.jpg

Spinjitzu Training Nya and Kai Kendo are the last 2 to make 20.  We've had one similar which is back in series 15, the Kendo Fighter.

Overall, should you buy this series.  To be fair, LEGO has me addicted and I have this strong urge to collect all if the figures in every set they release.  Also to be fair, I run a store and sell the extras so if I get a figure I don't want, I put it up on Bricklink.  If you are addicted like me, run out and grab them.  If not, there are a few figures that are fun, but to me nothing over the top.  Maybe my mind will change once I see the movie.

Set Review - #71018 - Series 17 Collectible Minifigures

After the LEGO Batman Movie collectible minifigures, it was good to get back to another series of original designed collectible minifigures.  Series 17 was released on 1 May 2017.  Oddly enough on the first day of the release, you could only purchase 5 at a time.  The next day you could purchase up to 32.  The price has held at $3.99 for a while now (I believe Simpsons Series 1 was the last set at the $2.99 price point).  This series contains 16 minfigures like the previous series versus 20 from Batman and 18 from Disney.  So let's get into the review of the minifigures.

professional_surfer.jpg

I believe the last male surfer minifigure was from series 2.  This one has a wet suit, some facial hair, and a good blond hair piece for his head.  To me what stands out for this figure is the board.  The shark mouth on the board is an awesome design in my opinion.  It's a lot better than a lot of the plain boards of the past.  For reference, the Series 2 minifigure had a board with a palm tree and sunset on it.

Oddly enough, the Circus Strongman has an equivalent in series 2 as well, a weightlifter.  To be fair this one has a circus theme versus the sole lifting focus as the one in series 2.  The mustache in this one is a nice touch and the weight has a 100 label on it versus the weight lifter's plain weights.

circus_strongman.jpg
gourmet_chef.jpg

The Gourmet Chef is different from most LEGO minifigure chefs.  The hat does not rest dead center on the head as it is crooked to the side and shows the woman's hair.  Also the whisk is new (I think) and the pie has strawberries printed on top.  This one could go well with the bakery in Assembly Square or the Parisian Restaurant.

From my NLS, the Corn Cob guy is "made by his mustache."  Without it, this one would be rather plain.  While there has been numerous minifigures dressed as animals, this is the second as a fruit/vegetable.  The first was banana guy in series 16.  I'm looking forward to seeing what other types of foods LEGO comes up with next for minifigures of the future.

corn_cob_guy.jpg
veterinarian.jpg

The Veterinarian contains a rabbit at the smaller scale of pets.  Originally dogs were much larger and have since shrunk similar to the one with the dog show judge in series 16.  The minifigure comes with blue hands (presumably wearing gloves, a name tag on her pants, and with a stethoscope around her neck.

The Hot Dog Man is different than the hot dog man from series 13.  This one is a vendor selling a hot dog in a bun and a drink.  The minifigure comes with a tray and he is wearing an apron and the hat seen at some of the old fashioned fast food restaurants out there.

hot_dog_man.jpg
butterfly_girl.jpg

Butterfly Girl looks like many of the little girls I see walking around these days only she into butterflies versus princesses.  The wings, face and hair decorations, tank top with the butterfly, and flowers all fit in with the over-the-top ways I have seen little kids walking around today.

The Roman Gladiator fits the theme of numerous other collectible minifigures to include the Roman Emperor from series 9 and the Roman Commander from series 10.  This one has a golden trident as a weapon, some brown gloves, and some rockin' abs.

Roman_Gladiator.jpg
connoisseur.jpg

In my opinion, the Connoisseur should be called "French guy".  Not sure why he isn't, but whatever.  He apparently is a connoisseur of bread that is 2/3s his size.  He also has a bulldog type dog similar in size to the rabbit that the veterinarian has.

The battle dwarf is a newer design.  He's not really a Lord of the Rings type, but he is ready to kick some butt.  He comes with an ax and then a hammer with the drawing of a boar-like animal on it.  His beard is big and bright red as is his mohawk-like red hairdo.

battle_dwarf.jpg
retro_spaceman.jpg

The Retro Spaceman is right out of the... is it the 70s?  Earlier?  Do kids these days even know what a retro spaceman is or was this minifigure solely build for AFOLs?

Speaking of kids not knowing where the reference comes from, do they know what this Yuppie minifigure is and when cell phones were that size?  The shades are pretty cool and I think the printed cheese slope is awesome.

yuppie.jpg
rocket_boy.jpg

Series 15 had a spaceman and series 17 has a Rocket Boy dressed up as a rocket.  I like the "kid drawn" classic space flag and the costume rivals some of the best seen at Halloween time.  I think this one is the best in the set, but that's just me.

The Dance Instructor is straight out of the 1980s.  The head band and outfit definitely come from that decade.  The water bottle is a new LEGO printed design with the H2O symbol.  And 1, and 2...

dance_instructor.jpg
elf_girl.jpg

When I think of elves, I more often think of the small people that work for Santa Claus (versus the Will Ferrell movie).  Elf Girl Is clearly not one of those as she is the standard minifigure size and has a large sword and shield.  She is ready to take someone out.

The highwayman was quite possibly the most talked about minifigure in the set.  When LEGO announced that series 17 was coming out, they listed this one as a "mystery minifigure."  It existed as a black outline as it does on the minifigure packets.  In reading some of the other LEGO fan sites I tend to agree that I don't get LEGO's marketing strategy.  It was very strange in my opinion.  What was so special about this minifigure to hide it?  Don't get me wrong, it's cool with the cape, scarf over the bottom of the face, 2 pistols, and tri-corner hat, but beyond that I'm not really sure what LEGO was going for.

highwayman.jpg

So there is my take on Series 17.  Another great, original series in my opinion.  Scoop them up now before they go away and the prices go up on the secondary market.

Set Review - The LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures - #71017

Don't worry, there are no spoiler alerts in this review.  I'm writing this on 18-19 January 2017 and the movie is not out yet.  I haven't seen any sneak previews or been given any special looks either.  So don't worry if you're reading this before the movie is out.  These minifigures were released on 1 January 2017 and unlike previous sets, there are 20 total.  The LEGO company has upped the number you can buy from Shop @ Home to 40.  The price is still $3.99 each and I don't see this being lowered anytime soon.

I placed 3 orders of 40 each so 120 total (yikes!).  This also included a polybag (#30524 The Mini Bat Wing) in each order.  In the first 2 orders I got 13 of the 20 and then got the remaining 7 in order #3.  Thankfully, I have a store for the items that I got duplicates of.  You can get them at my BrickLink store here.  Here are the minifigs:

Vacation Batman

Lobster-Lovin' Batman

Arkham Asylum Joker

Fairy Batman

I have only seen the previews, but these minifigures are hilarious.  The inner tube with a duck?  Who comes up with that?  Batman in a tutu?  Now that is funny.

King Tut

Red Hood

Glam Metal Batman

March Harriet

March Harriet

Glam Metal Batman... another humorous version of Batman.  The other figures in this row are interesting, but not having seen the movie, I'm not sure how they fit in.  Red Hood has the standard minifigure head underneath his "hood."  March Harriet has the same helmet piece as bunny suit man, but in brown.  Has there been that weapon before in another set yet?

Mime

Mime

Catman

Calculator

Calculator

Eraser

Eraser

Originally I thought Catman was a take on the Wolverine as the claws are similar to Wolverine's claws.  The others are some interesting characters.  Calculator has "07734" on his helmet shield which is "hELLO" on a calculator.  Nice.  Eraser has an interesting head which is very different from the standard minifigure head.

Dick Grayson

Pink Power Batgirl

Clan of the Cave Batman

Barbara Gordon

From the trailers, it looks like Dick is an orphan that Batman adopted.  I'm not sure what else he does or why he needs shark repellent.

Commissioner Gordon

Commissioner Gordon

Nurse Harley Quinn

Nurse Harley Quinn

Orca

Orca

Zodiac Master

Zodiac Master

And the last 4...  Nurse Harley Quinn and Commissioner Gordon only showed up single in the 120 that I ordered.  I wonder if they will be the hardest to find of if it was just my experience.  Orca looks a lot like Shark Suit Guy from series 15 only it's an orca.  Also the minifigure head is just the mouth of the orca versus a face of the figure wearing the suit.

I'm not going to lie, without seeing the movie it is hard for me to get excited on some of these minfigures.  The Batman versions are the better ones in my opinion.  What do you think of these figures?  Let me know in the comments below.

Happy building!

Set Review - Series 16 Minifigures - #71013

series16.jpg

I thought they were supposed to be out on 1 September, but I was totally wrong.  I'm not sure of the exact release date, but I checked the LEGO® Shop at Home web site one day and "tah-dah," they were sold out. What?  I kept checking back and happened to catch them available during a double VIP point weekend.  I ordered a bunch and it was a good thing because they are sold out again as of the time of this post.  I haven't checked to see availability at other retailers, but typically they sell quick at places like Target and Walmart.  Has anyone had any luck?

Onto the minifigures...  So these are $3.99 like past collectible minifigures and there are 16 as opposed to the Disney minifigures where there were 18.

ice_queen.jpg

arabian_knight.jpg

cyborg.jpg

IMG_3113.JPG

Here are the first four.  The ice queen looks pretty mean and is in line with some other past mean female minifigs to include Maleficient and Spider Lady.  I assume she is shooting ice out of her hands, but I can't be sure.  I've seen two names for the next one.  One is Arabian Knight and the other is Desert Warrior.  I'm not sure which is right, but his weapon is about as tall as he is.  Next up is the cyborg.  I like the blue hair piece.  It looks like you could put it on Wyldstyle if you wanted to switch her hairdo around.  The last in this row is labeled on brickset as "imp."  He looks like he'd fit right in with the series 14 Halloween themed minifigures.

spooky_boy.jpg

hiker.jpg

wildlife_photographer.jpg

kickboxer_girl.jpg

Spooky boy is the male version of the Series 12 Spooky girl.  The hiker has some new features that I haven't seen before.  He has a compass and map which both are new and a backpack that is different from the past standard minifigure backpack (I'm a fan of this character).  Next up is the wildlife photographer.  She has a camera and most importantly she comes with a small penguin.  This follows the theme of minifigures with various animals such as the skunk with the animal control officer.  The final one in this row is the kickboxer.  I like the option to put her hair on or her helmet and then there's a brick included to hold her helmet when she's not wearing it.

scallywag_pirate.jpg

penguine_suit_guy.jpg

rogue.jpg

dog_show_judge.jpg

Two comments on these four.  First off is the kid in the penguin outfit.  I think it's great!  Some of the most popular Collectible Minifigures have been minifigures in animal outfits like the shark man or piggy guy.  This minifigure is interesting because it comes with ice skates and a base plate.  With the ice skates you can't put the minifigure on the base plate so not sure why it's there other than that's what they always do.  Second comment about these four is the Dog Show Judge.  I found the size of the dog interesting.  In my review of the Fountain, you can see the size of most pets in the LEGO® brand.  This dog doesn't quite fit in based on its size.  Or maybe the one in the Fountain is too big?  There's a cat in this minifigure and it's about the same size as this dog.  So what's the right size next to a minifigure?

Mariachi.jpg

spy.jpg

Banana_guy.jpg

babysitter_and_baby.jpg

The acoustic guitar is an awesome addition to the minifigure repertoire.  We can add it to the saxophone and a few others that have appeared.  I think the banana guy will be another winner along with hot dog guy.  The sunglasses are a nice touch.  Finally, the last minifigure I show is the babysitter with a baby minifigure.  The baby minifigure was added to the LEGO® wold in the recent City People Pack.  I'm surprised it showed up again so quickly, but am glad to see it.  It's like you're getting two minifigures in one pack.  Bonus!

Overall I think LEGO® did another great job with the design of these minifigures.  In terms of the numbers of each they product, I'd prefer even numbers of all so I wouldn't get a lot of some and only a few of others.  In the end LEGO® just wants to make money so they won.  If you're good at feeling through bags, then keep at it.  I'm not so good at it so I'll keep buying a bunch and selling the rest.  What were your thoughts on series 16?

Bricks for Bricks August 2016 Update

Just a quick update to let everyone know where I'm yet.  As I've posted previously, the store closed in order for me to move from NM to FL.  Have I moved?  Yes.  Unfortunately I had to shut down my NM business and I need to start a new business in FL.  Part one of the process is that my main employer has to agree to my business venture.  They want to make sure there is no conflict of interest between what I'm doing and my main job (there isn't, but the approval process is taking a while).  After that is done, I need to work with FL to start the business up again.  If anyone has ever done this, you'll know that it's not easy.  The government doesn't make it easy to set up a business.  There are multiple agencies you need to contact to get various approvals.  There are tax documents, approvals to use your doing business as name, registering with your county, etc.  I apologize to anyone who has an interest in purchasing something from the store, but has to wait.  A few items have been favorited on my Brick Classifieds store... don't worry it will open up again.  Thanks for your patience!  If there is something you are interested in, please contact me and I can take it down and hold it until the store is open again.

There are a few items I'd like to buy personally that haven't been easy.  The Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (#42056) is on my list, but it seems to always be out of stock.  Over the weekend I saw it available briefly, but I failed to make the purchase right away.  I have a number of VIP points that will help to cut down on the price so that will be a bonus.  Now I just need to actually place the order.  Also, Series 16 Collectible Minifigures are out.  They are sold out as well.

Is there anything else I should post on the blog or that I should add to the store when it opens up?  Post in the comments or send me an email with your thoughts.

UPDATE: 15 hours after I wrote this post, I checked LEGO® Shop at Home and the Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (#42056) was listed as in stock.  I dumped all of the VIP points that I have been saving for quite some time on it to get a sweet discount.  The order has been placed and I'm looking forward to the shipment arriving and writing up a set review for it.  SWEET!!!!  My NLS gets questions from friends about her tolerance for the excessive amount of LEGO® in the house.  The usual response is that it could be wrose and I coudl be into sport cars or something more expensive.  What happens when I buy a sport car made of LEGO®?

Set Review - Disney Minifigures - #71012

Update - 19 May - The first of a few Disney Minifigures have been added to the store.  I don't have the full range for sale yet, but more will be added soon.  You can find them all here.

They have been out since 1 May so I'm a little late to the review, but it took a while for my orders to arrive.  The price in the US has remained the same at $3.99 per minifigures, but there have been a few changes.  For starters the set now includes 18 versus the standard 16 minifigures per set.  While it's great to have more figures out there, it means you need to spend more of your money if you want to complete the whole set ($71.82 vs $63.84 before taxes).  Another change, if you buy your figures from LEGO Shop at Home, they now only let you buy up to 18 versus the 32 that you used to be able to buy.  What does that mean?  You can't just order collectible minifigures and get the free shipping over $75.  Now you have to buy another set to go with them to get free shipping.

Another area which I'm sure has been debated elsewhere is the use of Licensed material versus original LEGO designed content.  It seems that LEGO is producing more and more licensed products.  Is that a bad thing?  I'm sure people are buying them so they keep making them, but having the imaginative sets is also good too.  Does LEGO have the right mix of both between themes like CITY and NEXO KNIGHTS and others versus STAR WARS and THE SIMPSONS and others?  I'm not sure I know the answer there either.

So onto the figures...

First off we have Stitch from "Lilo & Stitch."  I think they did a good job with this figure.  It's pretty accurate and using the shorter minifig legs helps.  Next is Peter Pan.  The face and printed torso and legs do a good job at capturing him, but I wonder if they should have used the shorter legs as well since Peter is a kid.  Finally Alice from Alice in Wonderland.  I like the plastic dress much better than some of the cloth dresses that have been used on past figures.  It limits the movement of the arms, but that's okay by me.

Stitch.jpg
PeterPan.jpg
Alice.jpg

I'm not sure how they decided which figures to do, but it's good that they did Peter Pan and Captain Hook.  Hook is pretty tall, but I think they did a good job capturing his look.  The hat is a nice touch.  Maleficient is next.  I'll be honest and say that I had no idea who that was until I got this minifigure.  Based on a Google search, I think this one was done pretty accurately.  The final one in this row is Ursula from "The Little Mermaid."  I think they did a good job capturing her look and the tentacles were done well.

CaptainHook.jpg
Maleficient.jpg
Ursula.jpg

Syndrome is from Disney Pixar's "The Incredibles."  It's an interesting selection as they chose him and Mr. Incredible.  Why not Mrs. Incredible?  Minnie Mouse is next.  It looks like Minnie, but it's pretty big in terms of height.  I guess it's tough if you want to get the head to look right, you have to get the rest of the body to match the size.  Next up, the Genie from "Aladdin."  I don't have much to say about this one other than I think it matches well with the character from the movie.

syndrome.jpg
MinnieMouse.jpg
genie.jpg

I think it's interesting to see Toy Story minifigures again.  They just did a line of Toy Story sets with minifigures so why do more?  The Pizza Planet Alien looks the same although it has some slight color changes from the last minifigures released.  Next up is Buzz Lightyear and This one looks almost exactly the same except for one major change... instead of the actual shaped head, it's a minifigure head.  I'm not sure why they chose a minifigure head versus the shape.  There are some slight color variations too.  You can see the original figure here.  Last in this row is Ariel... "The Little Mermaid."  While I think it's a good figure, LEGO definitely modeled it off of Marsha Queen of the Mermaids from "the LEGO Movie.."  They even matched the shell and jewel.

pizzaplanetalien.jpg
buzzlightyear.jpg
littlemermaid.jpg

Donald and Daisy look okay and the heads were done well.  I do think they are a little tall though.  Aladdin matches well although I'm not sure why they give Aladdin and the Genie a lamp.  Where's Abu?

donaldduck.jpg

Last up is Mickey.  He looks good to me!

mickey.jpg
daisyduck.jpg
Aladdin.jpg

As mentioned there are 18 figures total.  I'm missing the Cheshire Cat and Mr. Incredible.  I will add them to this post once I get them.

Should you run out and pick some of these up?  That's your call.  Are you a big Disney fan?  I think some of the newer characters are nice to see like Captain Hook, Stitch, Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald.  I'm not sure why they re-did Toy Story again... the character selection could have been a little better.  I also find it interesting that there are 2 Ariel figures with one in the Disney Princess type and the other more like a standard minifigure.   Either way, I'm sure we can expect more Disney minifigures to come.

More Series 15 Minifigs are in!

In the first bunch that I purchased, it didn't include the Faun figure.  I now have it and have completed the set.  You can see my original Series 15 post here.  I also have some additional Series 15 minifigs in the store.  You can see them here.  I have at least one of each of them in the store so if you are short one, take a look.

Set Review - Series 15 Collectible Minifigures - #71011

Series15minifigbags.jpg

I originally thought the LEGO collectible minifigures were just a rip off.  You have to hope that you can collect all 16 and you don't know what is int he bags... or maybe you're good at feeling through the packaging to figure out which minifig it is.  I avoided them and then one day while walking through a Walmart I decided to pick up a few just for fun.  From there it was all downhill.  I was hooked.  I had to get all 16 of each release... and the rest is history.

These minifigs were released in January 2016 and LEGO typically keeps them out for 3-4 months (although it usually depends on order and stock levels).  The cost is $3.99 each so buying large amount and hoping to get them all can get expensive.  So what are they?

While I'm not an expert on collectible minifigures, there aren't too many that come with animals.  There are a few the come with cats or dogs, but I think this is the first one with a pig.

As a kid I was a huge fan of all the space sets.  I miss the regular stream of creative space items being pumped out.  Thankfully, the LEGO company has released a few cool sets like the Exo Suit that come close.  This minifig sporting the classic space flag is awesome.

There is a knight in this set to add to your castle collection or maybe to terrorize your city.

Clumsy Guy is a first as far as I know.  I don't ever recall there being a set of LEGO crutches out there.  The banana peel on the shirt is new and different too.

There have been a few Native American minifigs in the collectible minifig sets to include this one.  This one is a first because the minifig has a baby that is wrapped up that she can either wear on her back in a pack or hold in her hand.

I'm not sure where this one was designed from, but it's interesting looking.

In my second order from LEGO, I received the faun.  It definitely looks like he fits into a famous CS Lewis book.

Series 9 Collectible Minifigs came with a plumber.  This one comes with a janitor.  I don't think I have seen this mop design before in another set.

If the pig wasn't good enough, having a skunk in the same series is awesome too.

The ballerina!

This is not the first mech to show up in the collectible minifigure world.  There is the Battle Mech from Series 9 and then the Evil Mech from Series 11.

I think the swords that come with the Kendo Fighter are new.  Has anyone see these before?

When the first pictures were released by LEGO, everyone knew that shark guy would be popular.  This shark looks very similar to the dancer made famous during the 2015 Super Bowl half time show with Katy Perry.

The Wrestling Champion looks pretty tough... except for the sky blue eye paint.

Keep your jewels safe from this minifig!

The queen goes along with the Classic King from series 13.  I haven't seen a dress like this before on a minifig so I think this is a new piece.
