collectible minifigures

Set Review - #71045 - Series 25 - Collectible Minifigures

It’s series 25 already! How crazy is that? This batch was released 1 January 2024 and they are still $4.99 each. Individual minifigures are #71045 or you can purchase the box of six with set #66763. There are scannable codes on the boxes to tell which minifigures are inside so it should prevent the boxes from getting broken into like we saw with the last version. I’m more of a fan of the non-licensed versions that they produce so let’s take a look at this round.

First, a picture of the boxes of six. Nothing super exciting.

My kids helped me put these together and they saw the fish with the Film Noir Detective and couldn’t figure out why it was there? Does it matter? This one is a fun concept and I’ve already seen a MOC or two posted using the minifigure as a main character.

Not our first gamer, but the E-Sports Gamer comes decked out with the most gear to include headphones, a controller, a keyboard, and the trophy.

Everything castle seems to be popular lately so we’ll see if this one joins that party. the translucent red ax blades are pretty cool. I doubt Vampire Knight will be a new sub theme, but it’s pretty creative.

We’ve had numerous Olympians before. The Sprinter here is different as he has prosthetics on.

Goatherd. Is everyone happy now? There’s a goat. I’m not sure why everyone is so excited about this goat, but it’s here. I hope you all can get some sleep at night now.

The Mushroom Sprite is very fun. The mushroom cap is a fun detail and you get a colorful butterfly as well.

The Fitness Instructor comes equipped with a kettle bell, fitness drink, and printed abs. She looks like she could kick any minifigure’s butt.

The Triceratops Costume Fan is great. Could go well with the new Natural History Museum modular or maybe as a Jurassic Park visitor.

Harpy is… um… what is it? Wings, claws, purple hair… okay?

Train Kid is fun with the costume similar to past boat and plane characters. We weren’t sure why he has an eye patch on. I assume he has an injury that he’s healing from. The printed part on the front of the train piece is a nice detail. You get two in the bag so figure out how to use the extra one.

The Fierce Barbarian could be a good addition to a Viking Village. This is not the first time we’ve had a barbarian if you can remember back to Series 17. If you have the previous one, you can now grow your barbarian horde.

Lastly, we have a Pet Groomer. This one comes with a dog that I don’t think we’ve gotten before. The minifigure has a dual printed face and the apron is printed on the torso and legs.

There you go…Happy hunting!

Set Review - #71039 - Marvel Studios - Series 2 - Collectible Minifigures

More collectible minifigures! This series is #71039 - Marvel Studios - Series 2. This set of 12 minifigures was released on 1 September 2023 for $4.99 each. Instead of bags, this series comes in cardboard boxes in order to save on the environment. I applaud the initiative, but if you haven’t seen any of the pictures online, the world has torn open the packages to find the minifigures they wanted since the feel technique doesn’t work anymore.. I purchased three packages of six minifigures each online. Surprisingly, with 18 minifigures, I managed to get all 12 in the series so that was a bonus.

I’m not a fan of Marvel so I can’t tell you details on these minifigures or how close or not they are to the actual characters. In this review, I’ll just point out some of the things I noticed about each figure.

Overall, no major complaints on this series. I recommend it for Marvel fans or CMF collectors. Otherwise, save your money for others.

Happy building!

Agatha Harkness - This minifigure comes with a book, cape, and two flicker shooter pieces (not sure of the official term). It comes with a jumper plate and one of the pieces to make it poseable, but she has a slope brick for a dress so you can’t really pose her. They could have done without the poseable piece for this one.

Moon Knight - I’m not sure who this minifigure is, but the little gold moon piece and coin is interesting.

She-Hulk - This minifigure comes with a few printed tiles so that’s a bonus. I like the face color and the hair piece color as well.

Hawkeye - The character doesn’t interest me much, but it comes with a small owl, which is great!

Kate Bishop - The printed tile pizza box is great. The dog has one eye printed on it, which I guess is on par with the actual character from what I read and is not a misprint.

Goliath - This one looks cool Not sure who he is. You can put the hair piece on if you don’t want the helmet.

Echo - I have no idea what this minifigure is holding. The printing on the pants and torso are interesting.

Beast - Again, no idea who this character is, but the blue hair piece and face look cool.

Mr. Knight - I like the fish tank printed on the 1x2 clear brick. The minifigure doesn’t do much for me.

The Werewolf - I’m not a fan of this minifigure, but I also don’t know the character so maybe that’s why.

Storm - The white hair piece is a cool piece.

Wolverine - I’ve seen Wolverine minifigures in the past. I’m not sure how this one compares, but it looks okay Like some of the previous ones, you get a hair piece and the mask.

Set Review: #71034 - Series 23 Collectible Minifigures

We’re at the last collectible minifigure series of the year. #71034: Series 23 contains 12 new minifigures and they were released in the US staring on 26 July 2022. They still retail for $4.99 per bag. This series contains 8 costumed minifigures which is quite high compared to past offerings. Not saying that’s a bad thing, just different from the past. There are also a number of holiday themed minifigures as this series will take us through the end of the calendar year and past Thanksgiving and Christmas LEGO Shop @ Home still gave an initial cap of 16 bags and 2 boxes for 28 minifigures total. We’ll see if that remains or if they end the cap later. I’ve been able to purchase collectible minifigure series offerings from Target and Walmart online with caps on individual orders, but no overall cap.

I don’t see the price changing anytime soon, but of note, I saw Series 22 on sale at Target and Best Buy before it retired so perhaps if you wait, you may see Series 23 go on sale in December closer to when it will come off the shelves.

My comments on the individual minifigures is below. Happy building!

Green Dragon Costume Guy comes with a dragon tail, the wings, a head piece and two horns on top. I think it’s a pretty cool looking minifigure.

Ferry Captain is fun with the giant boat that he’s wearing, but I think the red smoke stack is slightly in the way. I guess you could just remove the one in front of him if you wanted.

Next is two Christmas themed minifigures with Reindeer Costume Girl and a female Christmas Elf. They both come with some extra accessories which is good. The elf is a new torso and hair piece from any of the previous ones so that is a nice addition for anyone looking to add to their Winter Village themed layouts.

Wolf Costume Guy comes with a bag and is licking his lips so he just ate something or maybe hopes to eat something. This one is reminiscent to Series 19’s Fox Costume Girl with the sack and looking for food.

Knight of the Yellow Castle is the name Brickset.com and Bricklink.com list for this one. I’m guessing this is a reference tot he yellow castle of old, but I find it odd that it is colored pink. Wouldn’t it be yellow?

Cardboard Costume girl flashes back to some of the minifigure robots we’ve had in past series. This time, it’s a costumed minifigure.

Popcorn Costume guy has shown up in a lot of great MOCs on line with Series 17’s Corn Cob guy.

Oddly, the Snowman was the hardest one for me to find. I eventually got it and then another so who knows. This one is actually a costumed minifigure. There is a minifigure head underneath the snowman head. Interesting that they chose that option versus just molding a solid snowman head.

Turkey Costume guy is the first Thanksgiving reference we’ve seen in a CMF series, right? This one is pretty fun and comes with a pumpkin.

Lastly we get Sugar Fairy girl. This one is very similar to Series 17’s Butterfly Girl in terms of size and the wings. This one comes with a tutu, candy cane, and a tiara.

Finally, the Nutcracker comes with a sword and a 1x1 round tile printed nut to crack. This figure looks similar to some of the Pirate themed soldiers from the past. You might be able to mix him into a MOC without anyone spotting it.

Set Review - #71033: The Muppets - Collectible Minifigures

Lego sucked me into Collectible Minifigures back in Series 10 which was back in May of 2013. Here I am almost 10 years later still trying to collect them all. This series is The Muppets, which is a first for LEGO from what I can recall. It was released on 1 May 2022 in the US for $4.99 each. You can also buy boxes of six minifigures for $29.94 from LEGO while numerous other retailers sell them for $29.99. Gotta make that extra nickel of profit!

There are 12 minifigures in total. LEGO Shop @ Home will let you buy 16 individual packages and then three of the boxes of six for 18 meaning you can buy 34 in total. I did this and really hoped to get all 12. I only got eight… LEGO Customer Service will tell you that it is all random and that’s how it works, but I say they need to do a better job randomizing. I sell collectible minifigures in my BrickLink store and do my best to load up on each series knowing that they are only out for three to four months at a time. I placed another order through Walmart and received two boxes of six each. With 46 now, I was at nine total. Definitely a good profit item for LEGO and something I would definitely not do unless I had a BrickLink store.

So here is my review on the first few and I’ll add to it as I go. Overall, I like the minifigures in this series and I think LEGO did a great job capturing the likeness of each one. If only I could collect each one…

Here is what the boxes look like that give you six minifigures each.

I have not counted yet, but I think these first two were the most prevalent in my purchases. Miss Piggy comes in a printed dress and holding a printed tile of one of her glamor shots. I wonder what the decision was to go printed versus the cloth dress versus a skirt piece that fits over the legs or using a slope piece as a dress

Kermit the Frog looks pretty good other than being a little bigger scale wise. He comes with his banjo/ukulele (which is it?) and a tile of a rainbow.

I got a bunch of these two as well. Our two favorite hecklers, Waldorf and Statler join this series. Waldorf has a tea cup and saucer along with a tile to hold up with ZZZZs on it. Statler has a laptop with a connection to Scooter over a video connection app. Both seem to match their Muppet likenesses really well in my opinion.

Fozzie Bear comes with his usual get up of hat and scarf item around his neck. He comes holding a banana as part of a joke maybe and then has a microphone on a stand.

Animal comes with a brick built drum set and uses two Harry Potter wands as his drum sticks. I’m a big fan of this one. The minifigure looks like he is doing his famous laugh… “Ha Ha Ha Ha!”

Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is next with a conical flask for his next experiment.

Gonzo comes with printed pants and a Hawaiian style shirt with Chile peppers on it. He comes with a chicken who we can only assume is Camilla.

So I did get Rowlf the Dog, but will wait to add a picture until I get another minifigure to put next to him.. Rowlf comes with a sheet of music and a bust of a composer. The bust comes with a minifigure head with two expressions and a hair piece.

Beaker… finally got this one. You don’t want to know how many I went through until I got it. Beaker looks pretty accurate with this blank stare and the mouth open. He’s holding a control switch to start an experiment or blow something up.

Janice matches the character well with the hair and red lips. She’s got a guitar which is similar to others in shape, but has different printing on it.

The Swedish Chef also looks great. I like how they did his facial hair. He’s got a whisk and is holding one of the Muppet vegetables which is made up of a minifigure head with some greenery on top. This minifigure is great! It stinks that I only got one after all of the purchases I made. Thanks for the “randomness” LEGO!

Set Review: Series 22 Collectible Minifigures - #71032

I’m actually getting to review some Collectible Minifigures before they retire. That’s a first. Series 22 or #71032 was released in the US on 1 January 2022. I‘ve seen March and April retirement dates, but it probably just depends on stock levels. LEGO Shop @ Home will only let you purchase 16. Walmart.com (as of this post) will only let you get 2. I found Target.com would only let me buy boxes of 6 (shown below) and didn’t have a cap. The minifigures are $4.99 per bag and if you buy a box of 6 it is very slightly more As with previous sets, this one comes with 12 now versus the higher numbers of the past.

Maybe it’s just me, but this time I felt like they were more evenly dispersed. I’m used to getting a lot of a character I don’t want and then there’s that one hard to find figure that I can’t get. I’m sure it’s just me.

Overall, I found this to be a good set. I like the mix of minifigures and have always been a fan of the creative series versus the licensed series. If you collect these, I recommend this series although $5 a bag still seems ridiculous to me.

Here’s a picture of the box that comes with six minifigures in it. For a company looking to decrease its impact on the environment, adding packaging to a product doesn’t seem to fit the bill there. I guess the boxes can be recycled so maybe it’s not as bad?

Not in any particular order…

The Robot Repair Tech comes with a small robot and some tools. The arm of the tech has a tool hand versus the standard minifigure hand. This is something you don’t often see. I wonder if we’ll see this more?

Chili Costume Fan comes with the costume and some red hair. She also had a little container of milk to help with the burning sensation in your mouth after eating a chili. The costumed miniifigures seem to be very popular so I’m sure we’ll continue to see more of these in the future.

The Snow Guardian looks like it could the the star of a cool new fantasy theme in the LEGO world. It happened with the Monkey King and series 20. You never know. This minifigure comes with a husky dog to add to your LEGO dog collection.

Troubadour… I had to search what this one was… comes with a lyre and some coins. Could be a fun addition to a castle MOC.

Horse and Groom is the next one. This one comes with a pony sized horse as compared to the larger versions seen in Castle sets in the past. The minifigure has a carrot and a hat with hair attached. I like the green plaid shirt.

Figure Skating Champion comes with a trophy and skates. It also has one of the posable pieces included so you can have the skater going into a jump or spin. Not exactly my favorite one of the bunch, but the timing works with the Winter Olympics going on during the release of this series.

The Night Protector is interesting. Another figure from a fantasy world. I guess either you can create the world or maybe they’ll come out with this world in the future. The translucent purple sword is fun. My picture is pretty bad, but the shield is also translucent purple and it has a design on it.

The Forest Elf is pretty fun with the acorn hat, cape, walking stick, and the smiling mushroom. As a bonus, the bag comes with a second smiling mushroom top so you can expand your creepy forest.

The Raccoon Costume Fan has the costume, a trash can, a trash bag, and then some hair for when the minifigure decides to take the headpiece off. I like how the grey hair matches the color of the raccoon.

The Bird-Watcher comes equipped with binoculars and a small bag. The bird included is a toucan which is a fun new addition to the LEGO world.

The Space Creature has become pretty popular among Classic Space fans. Now with the purple shirt, you can find purple pants and a purple helmet to make a purple figure. Apparently the purple oxygen tank hasn’t been made yet.

Last up is the Wheelchair Racer. This one includes the racing wheel chair, a helmet, and a medal.

Set Review - #71031 - Marvel Studios - Collectible Minifigres

There was a lot of excitement in the LEGO fan media for this release, but as a non-Marvel fan, I’m not super excited. I just happen to be sucked into collecting each Collectible Minifigure series. Thanks a lot LEGO! #71031: Marvel Studios was released on 1 September 2021 in the US and should be done in at the end of December. LEGO Shop @ Home shows out of stock, but you can still find them at other retailers like Walmart and Target. The price is $4.99 per bag and there are 12 minifigures total if you get a chance to do the feel test. My local Walmart never seemed to have them so I purchased them online. It stinks not being able to do the feel test and having to buy more, but thankfully, I can put extras in my store. Also, Walmart had them listed for $4.97 so you save two pennies on each.

My review won’t be super detailed as I don’t really know the characters, but I will assess them from a LEGO fan standpoint. Some overall comments, they all come with a jumper plate and the new-ish poseable piece (if that’s what you call it). They all mostly have pretty detailed parts with printed legs, torsos, and most have dual printed faces.

Overall, don’t get these unless you are a Marvel Studios fan or you are addicted to collecting minifigures. Otherwise, I still think $4.99 is too much for what you get and you probably won’t appreciate all of the details from the various movies/comics.

The Scarlet Witch has a lot of details and comes with a cape. There are also two of the flickable fireball things. I’ve never tried to send them for distance, but the instructions have a warning not to hit people in the face with them.

The Vision comes with a supped up laptop with a clear-blue screen. He also has a white cape which I don’t think we have seen often.

Monica Rambeau has a cool hairpiece. I’m not sure if we’ve seen it before or not, but I like it. There is also a small unmanned aerial system type build to go along with her.

Winter Soldier comes with a shield and knife/sword. The set actually has two of these blades together so you get an extra. He doesn’t have enough facial hair to warrant a beard piece, but just enough for printing of some scruff on his face.

Captain America has an interesting glider get up along with a 2x2 tile triangle (probably not the official name). This one was one of the easier ones to feel in the package before taking it out.

Loki has a coffee mug with a logo printed on it and the same logo is on his belt (again, not a Marvel fan, sorry). The little green guy he comes with is fun and he sits on a stud which works out well.

Sylvie has a mini alligator. which I think is cool. The minifigure comes with two manchettes. I posed her with both, but the instructions only show one..

Zombie Hunter Spidey might be the first I’ve seen that comes with two heads. I like that you can have the Spidey face or the non-masked face. As a bonus, you get a “string of web”

Zombie Captain America was the one I got the most of when opening up these packs. I’m not sure why as I wouldn’t think it would be the most popular, but apparently LEGO thought so.

Captain Carter was the hardest to find for me. LEGO limited orders to 16 (total) and Walmart let you place multiple orders, but only of 12 at a time. With my multiple orders, this minifigure only showed up once.

T’Challa Star-Lord comes with a hairpiece, mask, and two weapons. I like the purple shirt/jacket.

Gamora with Blade of Thanos. The green face is cool and the black hair with purple streak is interesting. The blade is pretty giant.

Set Review - #71030 - Looney Tunes - Collectible Minifigures

It’s been a bit since we’ve had a new Collectible Minifigure series and now we have the first licensed series of 2021. This one is based on Looney Tunes with a pending release of a 2021 movie. There are 12 minifigures in this series in line with Series 21. This series cost $4.99 per bag in the US which is in line with previous pricing. This series came out on in the US on 26 April 2021.

Overall, the characters are mostly non-standard with only one having a standard minifigure head. The remaining ones have molded heads. For the most part they look pretty good and like the cartoon characters. If you’re a fan of Looney Tunes, then I recommend them. Or if you’re a completionist and addicted to collecting LEGO minifigures. Otherwise, the almost $5 for a minifigure is still a bit high in my opinion. I found them for $3.95 each locally so I can’t complain.

The only thing interesting about this series is the violence of the characters. It’s interesting that LEGO and their non-violent stance would do this series. Especially with the characters that have various weapons to go after each other. Interesting…

Onto the review…

71030_1.JPG

Tweety Bird and Sylvester the Cat are known for going after each other. In this case, Tweety has a large hammer (that can cause the minifigure to tip over if you don’t position it right) and Sylvester has a bat. Tweety is slightly smaller while Sylvester is larger so that works. Sylvester is pretty accurate and I can see where it would be hard for Tweety to be actual size in the LEGO scale.

71030_2.JPG

Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote are two other enemies with Wile E. going after Road Runner in every sketch. Road Runner is a bit larger in scale than the skinny bird from the cartoon, but it works. I’m not sure what the bowl is that he has with him. Wile E. is pretty accurate and I like the brick built anvil that he has to attempt to drop on Road Runner.

71030_3.JPG

Petunia Pig… I don’t remember seeing her ever in one of the cartoons. Maybe she’s new? She comes with a teapot and cup. The bag actually comes with two cups.

Porky Pig looks like the cartoon pig with his blue jacket. I like the “that’s all folks” sign.

71030_4.JPG

Daffy Duck looks pretty accurate and the “rabbit season” sign is fun.

Tasmanian Devil comes with a drum stick and pie. He also has a little spinner plate so you can spin him around like he does when he enters a room. He can also be placed on the usual minifigure stand.

71030_5.JPG

Marvin the Martian comes with his helmet, eyes peaking out from under the helmet, and his ray gun. I almost missed the little skirt thing in the bag, but it fits right in…

Speedy Gonzales looks pretty accurate and comes with some cheese slopes that are decorated like cheese.

71030_6.JPG

Last 2 minifigures…

Lola Bunny is… I had to look her up. I guess she’s from the first “Space Jam” movie. I hadn’t heard of her before, but there you go…

Bugs Bunny looks like the classic Bugs. He has the typical carrot that we’re used to seeing him with.

Set Review - #71029 - Series 21 - Collectible Minifigures

Yeah, yeah… I complained about them and now I finished the collection thanks to SteineHelden.de. These 12 minifigures were released on 1 January 2021 and are still available at the time of this post. I had a not so fun time trying to get all of these, but I finally managed. Supposedly the new box of 36 has three full sets. Only where do you get a full box?

I paid the full $4.99 from LEGO Shop @ Home, I bought a few from LEGO.de for ~$4.84 and then SteineHelden’s price worked out to about $4.50. Not my ideal price, but I can’t complain as compared to prices in the US.

If you’ve read any of my Collectible Minifigure reviews, I’m a big fan of the non-licensed versions. I think the designers come up with some creative minifigures that can be used in individual scenes, in cities, or whatever MOC you are working on. Series 21 is no different. Despite having only 12 in this go around, I think the mix of minifigures is good between costumed minifigures, fantasy and historical minifigures, and modern day city people.

If you’re a fan of Collectible Minifigures, definitely pick these up. Try and find sales if you can as these things are not cheap in my opinion.

A quick write up on each figure is below. What are your thoughts?

Happy building!

71029_1.jpg

Two costumed minifigures in this set. Ladybird Girl as Brickset refers to it comes with the ladybug wings, 2 1x1 round tile printed ladybugs, and a hat with antenna. This one is pretty cute.

Pug Costume Guy is a fun dog that comes with two toy bones to hold onto. I like the ears on the dog helmet.

71029_2.jpg

The Paddle Surfer is decked out with a lot of gear. You get a surf board, a paddle, a life jacket, and a dolphin. The minifigure head is either sun glasses or without on the other side. This one is good for any beach scene and the dolphin is a great add for any city beach or even a pirate scene.

The Shipwreck Survivor has his bottle to put a note in and a small hermit crab to go with the minifigure.

71029_3.jpg

Two kids in this series. Violin Kid comes with a kid sized violin and then he uses a wand as his bow. This one is pretty creative and I like the idea of minifigures with instruments.

Airplane Girl come with a full up airplane costume along with a helmet and goggles. She also comes with a hair piece if you want to use her without the costume. Has anyone seen the Amelia Earhart gift with purchase release coming out? I wonder if these two are tied in?

71029_4.jpg

The Beekeeper is a fun concept. I could see someone making some bee hives to go with a farm scene.

Space Police Guy is a nod to the space fans from back in the day. I still have some of the original space police sets and it’s cool to have another more modern figure to go with them.

71029_5.jpg

Ancient Warrior seems to be from the Aztec type days. Or maybe Mayan? I’m not sure, but it’s cool looking.

Alien comes with a crystal and a crow bar. Your chance to be creative here to come up with what that alien could be doing.

71029_6.jpg

The Cabaret Singer comes with a microphone stand, a microphone, a giant head piece, and a cape. This picture is big only because of the next minifigure and I couldn’t fit them in together…

71029_7.jpg

The Centaur Warrior is cool looking, but my only complaint with the set. She comes with a quiver of arrows for her back, but if you put the quiver on, you can’t put her hair on without her head sticking up. I tried to angle the head slightly, but the hair still doesn’t fit. The simple answer is to take the quiver off. Then why have the bow and arrow? Maybe she can just hold the apple…

Set Review - #71028 - Harry Potter Series 2 - Collectible Minifigures

I ranted last week about Collectible Minifigures and this week I can stop complaining. I placed an order with SteineHelden.de (sorry USA, they only sell in Germany) and finally was able to complete this series released in the US back on 1 September 2020 and since retired at LEGO Shop @ Home.

This series has 16 total minifigures which differs from the first series where they had 22 total. Pricing is still $4.99 each in the US. The extended German lockdown has made it impossible to go to stores for the “feel” check so you have to buy a bunch online and hope for the best. I got a few on sale here for around $3.45 each which was great, but the rest ranged from $4.70 to the US retail price of $4.99. Apparently the days of sales on these things where they are around $3.50 or less are gone.

I won’t spend a ton of time going over these minifigures as they are already retired and I’m late to the game. I will say that I appreciated how the minifigures could be mixed in with some of the 2020 Harry Potter sets. For example #75969-1: Hogwarts Astronomy Tower includes a scene from the sixth book/movie where they are at the Slug Club Christmas party. The Ginny minifigure can be added to that scene. Also the astronomy tower has part of the green house where Professor Sprout teaches. So good job LEGO on that one.

Onto the minifigures…

71028_1.jpg

Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are in the outfits from book/movie #6 (“The Half Blood Prince.” They go to The Three Broomsticks for butter beer with Harry. They each come with wands and a mug of the beverage.

IMG_1971.jpg

Harry’s parents, James Potter and Lily Potter always appear in flashbacks or as ghosts in the books/movies as they are no long alive. In minifigure form, James comes with a picture that Harry has and Lily has a baby Harry which is wrapped up tightly.

IMG_1972.jpg

As mentioned, Ginny Weasley is in her Slug Club Christmas party outfit. Harry has the potions book from “The Half Blood Prince.”

71028_4.jpg

Fred and George Weasley have their tricks to sell other students from the sixth book/movie (I think) and the Marauder’s map which they gave Harry. Fred is on the left and George is on the right in the picture. Or at least that’s what Brickset.com says.

71028_5.jpg

Griphook is a goblin who works at Gringotts Bank. This figure is from the last movie where he helps the gang break into a vault. He comes with a key (actually a set of 2) and then the sword of Gryffindor (which is cool looking). Next is Moaning Myrtle. She comes with a copy of Tom Riddle’s diary from the second book/movie. I like how they added the poseable stand so you can make it look like she is floating as she is a ghost.

71028_6.jpg

I’m not sure which book/movie he first appears in, but Kingsley Shacklebolt is a member of the Order of the Phoenix and comes here in his full robes with a wand and broom. As mentioned already, Professor Pomona Sprout is decked out to teach students how to re-pot mandrakes from book/movie #2 (“Chamber of Secrets”). I like how they created the mandrake plant by printing on a 1x1 round brick.

71028_7.jpg

Neville Longbottom comes with a Monster Book of Monsters and a wand as depicted in “The Prisoner of Azkaban” (book/movie 3). Luna Lovegood is decked out in her quidditch lion hat to show her support for Gryffindor. She also comes with a blond hair piece if you want to switch them out. This is from book/movie #5.

71028_8.jpg

Next is Bellatrix Lestrange in her Azkaban uniform. She has a wand, hand cuffs, and her prisoner number on a 1x2 tile. This is from “Order of the Phoenix” (book/movie 5).

Albus Dumbledore is last in my review with a wand and Fawkes his phoenix. Fawkes first appears in the second book/movie (“The Chamber of Secrets”).

Now that I finally collected them all, it’s a good mix of characters from various parts of the book/movie series. I like the mix and the ability to use them in other sets.

Now LEGO needs to figure out how to sell them to allow you to get all of them without going through great pains or spending a lot of money.

Where are the Collectible Minifigure Reviews?

If you’ve spent any time on my site, you’ll notice there is a link for set reviews where I delve into a bunch of sets that interest me. One of those areas are the Collectible Minifigures which you can find my earliest review of series 15 from early 2016. I’ve reviewed every series since then until recently.

The second set of Harry Potter minifigures was released back on 1 September 2020. There are 16 minifigures in total and they retail for $4.99 each in the US or 3,99€ in Europe (today’s exchange rate puts it at $4.82 for a comparison).

I was able to get a bunch on sale at Smyth’s here locally back before Christmas time, but Germany has locked down and stores are closed. This puts the bag feeling technique out of limits. I ordered a few from Shop @ Home for the full retail price, but have ended up with doubles and triples.

Unfortunately, the Christmas time rush made them go out of stock in the US and I don’t think they are coming back. As a collector, I didn’t want to be forced to pay for specific minifigures on BrickLink or eBay.

I found some new and unopened in Germany for around $4.30 after the exchange rate so hopefully that will allow me to complete the set. They are on their way to me in the next few days so more to follow.

Series 21 (#71029) was released on 1 January 2021. With only 12 minifigures in the series, I figured it would be easier to get all 12.

The LEGO Ideas Vintage Car (#40448-1) was a gift with purchase on 1 January and I decided to try and get minifigures and to get the car. Shop @ Home in the US had a restriction on 1 January of only buying three minifigures (it has since been lifted). Shop @ Home in Germany allowed you to buy 20. So I went with both.

My German order shipped quickly and arrived fast. With 20 minifigures, I figured I would be close to getting all 12 if not getting them all. Boy was I wrong! Every bag I opened seemed to be a repeat. I ended up with only six of the 12 after opening all 20. I sent a note to Customer Service saying they need to mix them up or sell the boxes. They sent me a note saying that it was part of the fun to not know what you are going to get (or part of the profit plan?).

My order of three minifigures arrived from the US a few weeks later. There was one repeat from what I ordered from Germany and then two of a separate one. So 23 minifigures later and I only have 7 of the 12.

In conclusion…

-It is getting harder for me to complete a set as I can’t go to a store to test bags

-I don’t have any complete sets of the last two series yet

-Buying in bulk without discounts is getting more expensive than it is actually worth

-I think LEGO needs to sell the proposed box of 36 with 3 complete sets or not at all

What are your thoughts? Does LEGO need to change up how they sell the Collectible Minifigures?
