Collectible Minifigures

Set Review: #71046 - Series 26 - Collectible Minifigures

SPACE!!!!!!!!! May 1, 2024 saw the release of Series 26 of the Collectible Minifigure series. Much like the previous sets, these minifigures are $4.99 each. There are 12 minifigures in this series and unlike some of the random minifigures in previous series sets, this one is all space themed. Some are original designs, but others are related to retro space themes which is awesome to see their return to the LEGO world.

In the past, I’ve purchased the boxes of six. Series 26 is no different with #66764 containing the boxes of six. I had a 10% off deal at Target so I picked up some of the individual minifigures in the store. I used the Figure Finder web based tool from falconbricks.com to scan the individual boxes to find each one of the 12. Thankfully it worked and the store I went to had enough in stock so I was able to get all 12. The site isn’t instantaneous so you have to give it a few minutes to find what you’re looking for. One fellow shopper noticed what I was doing and joined in as he was looking for a specific minifigure. He ended up finding what he was looking for too. While I understand the concept of the random bags and that LEGO likes to keep us guessing (and purchasing), I’m glad they’ve allowed the creation of these apps to find what we’re looking for. So thank you to LEGO and the fan community for making this happen.

Onto the review of the minifigures…

Spacewalking Astronaut: This one is in line with the new Space subtheme tied to the CITY theme with similar logos. This minifigure has the most gear to include a space jet pack with controls and a printed tile on the back. You’ll also note that the black base plates are printed with a star pattern which is a nice touch.

Imposter: The head on this one is dual printed with the print in this picture and then a standard minifigure face on the other side. Besides the antenna on its head, it also comes with three small alien microfigures.

Alien Tourist: This one is a fun one with a cool looking hat to go with the alien face. The Hawaiian shirt he has on covers up a white shirt underneath with a red heart and then a picture of Earth. He also has a back pack along with the camera he’s holding.

Retro Space Heroine: This one seems to resemble the Retro Space Guy from Series 17. The difference on this one comes with a dog to go with it.

M-Tron Powerlifter: I was a big fan of the M-Tron theme as a kid and was excited to see this one come back. The torso is the same, but that’s about it. The legs are cool with printing on the front and the sides. The claw is a cool touch. The helmet is different and doesn’t have a visor like back in the day, but it’s good to see the sub-theme return

Nurse Android: Let’s be honest here. No one cares about this minifigure. It’s all about the pink space baby to go with the other ones. We couldn’t get enough of the different colored Classic Space minifigures and now we can collect different colored space babies.

Flying Saucer Costume Fan: I don’t think we’ve ever seen one like this before. The legs and torso have the star pattern and blend in with the base plate quite nicely. Then it looks like it’s just a head in a flying saucer flying through space which is fun.

Ice Planet Explorer: I had a few of these sets as a kid too. The minifigure is similar to the originals, but with a few differences. No translucent orange skis and the helmet doesn’t have the translucent orange visor. The translucent orange chain saw is in line though. Also, the robotic penguin is a nice touch.

Robot Butler: I don’t know where they got the idea for this one, but I think it’s fun. This one has a different base instead of legs, but the torso and head are similar. The translucent green head covering is interesting.

Alien Bettlezoid: The head on this one is interesting. It’s nothing like the normal head. Also, the legs are molded differently from regular minifigure legs so they have a different form.

Orion: Have they made one with translucent parts like this one? I like the references to the constellation and how this one has silver and then the sparkling purple.

Blacktron Mutant: Last one is this Blacktron minifigure. I was excited to hear there would be a return of this sub-theme, but I’m not a big fan of the minifigure. It has the second generation Blacktron logo, but I’m not excited about the mutant aspects. It’s creative, but I was hoping for a minifigure that would go with my old collection of minifigures. I can’t complain too much I guess.

Rumored Space Collectible Minifigure Series

Okay so everything you read on the internet isn’t 100% true, but recently the rumor going around is that LEGO will release a space themed collectible minifigure series soon. After the Disney 100 series retires, we’ll have Marvel Studios series 2, then Series 25, and then a supposed space series in 2024. No one knows that that means yet. Will it be a CITY space themed series? Or Classic Space? Or a mixture of multiple space themes? Or a bunch of alien minifigures?

If I had to guess, based on the recent success of the Classic Space minifigures showing up in #10497-1: Galaxy Explorer, #40580-1: Blacktron Cruiser, and the brown Classic Space minifigure with space baby showing up in #71037: Series 24, I would think LEGO will cater to the fans with more of the same.

So what does that mean? Let’s take a trip down LEGO Space memory lane to discuss what we might see in this release…

Classic Space

We have seen a lot of Classic Space minifigures return in different colors and sizes. I suspect that we would see at least one new Classic Space minifigure and hopefully it will be in a color that we don’t have. What’s left anyways?

Side note… I forgot I even had this one. Other than the dust, it looks pretty good. The helmet doesn’t have a crack and the logo is still there. Nice!

Space Police

The first version of space police looks similar to Futuron, but has a red face shield on the helmet. The re-boot a few years later added some different colors and printing on the faces. We already saw a Space police minifigure in #71029: Series 21 Collectible Minifigures, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them appear again.

Blacktron

Blacktron I and II have reappeared with the Blacktron Cruiser GWP recently. Maybe we’ll get a new Blacktron II minifigure? I like the jet pack suit. Maybe another one will show up?

Futuron

Futuron is kind of an upgraded Classic Space series. I enjoyed some of the tools they came with and it would be fun to see a new one, but I’m not sure we’ll be getting another one considering the popularity of Classic Space and how similar these look.

M-Tron

Please bring M-Tron back in the CMF series!!!!! I was a huge fan as a kid and still am. The magnets in the sets were fun to play with and I wouldn’t mind adding to my M-Tron stash.

Ice Planet 2002

Ice Planet brought a new theme with new helmet visors, printed faces, and lots of translucent orange pieces. It would be awesome to see these guys re-appear. Maybe some girl space figures?

Spyrius, Unitron

I forgot I had these guys. I picked them up right before I entered my “Dark Age.” They had some printing on their faces and different looks, but the theme wasn’t really a standout. I doubt we’ll see either of these guys make a return.

Set Review - #71038 - Disney 100 - Collectible Minifigures

We just had two Collectible Minifigure Series of original minifigures and now we’re back to another licensed theme. The Disney 100 series was released on 1 May 2023. It contains 18 minifigures instead of 12 like the previous two series. The price is still $4.99 each per minifigure.

Overall, I’m not a big fan of this series, but I’m also not a big Disney fan so maybe I have a biased opinion. It definitely has a diverse grouping of minifigures from some movies I haven’t seen before. I thankfully didn’t have to buy a ton to get all 18. It took four boxes of six to get to the 18. I bought 6 boxes total so I have some extras, but that’s the good part of having a Bricklink store is I have a place to sell them when I have extras. You should get these if you’re a Disney fan or if you’re addicted to needing each Collectible Minifigure set (like I am). Otherwise, only get them if you really want a part or like one of the minifigures. With any luck, these will go on sale towards the end of their shelf time similar to how some of the previous series have done. Onto my comments on the minifigures…

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit has a different shaped head with ears attached so that’s unique. He also comes with a printed 1x2 tile. I’m not sure what else I’d do with him besides a display of minifigures, but I’m sure someone will come up with something cool

Pinocchio has the normal minifigure head, but has a molded nose which is a first from what I know. He comes with a clear minifigure head with the fish printed on it as a fish bowl. His legs have different coloring which is a nice touch to give a shorter minifigure shorts.

Jiminy Cricket looks a little odd as we’re used to seeing him with a shaped head instead of a minifigure head. For a LEGO minifigure it works I guess. He’s got an umbrella which isn’t new and a collar piece for his shirt. The hat is a nice touch with the yellow band around bottom.

Sorcerer Mickey looks similar to the other Micky figures only with the sorcerer get up. He comes with a pail and mop. Nothing else overly spectacular here.

Tiana comes with a light greenish colored tiara and a frog. She has a 2x3 printed tile as well. The color of the dress is different so that’s good.

Dr. Facilier… um, I haven’t seen the movie so I guess he is okay. I don’t know…The top hat with the skull and cross bones could work as a pirate minifigure in a pirate themed MOC.

Queen of Hearts looks like I’d picture the Queen of Hearts and she even has a heart scepter. The face looks less like a minifigure face and more like a cartoon.

Aurora isn’t really all that special in my opinion, but you do get an owl that is different from all of the Harry Potter owls so a new animal is always a good thing.

Mulan looks pretty tough. I think it’s a good looking minifigure. Nice work here.

Ernesto de la Cruz… I haven’t seen this movie so I have no idea what to say here. The white guitar is fun and the sombrero as well.. Beyond that… I don’t know?

Miguel Rivera… um… looks good I guess. The dog with the tongue to the side must be from the movie so we’ll go with it. You can go with the hood and skeleton face or the printed face and hair. For fun, I have the hair on the minifigure stand which looks a little creepy.

Pocahontas seems to match the character well enough. And you get a few colored leaves which should help to brighten up any plant or garden MOC.

Cruella de Vil seems a little odd with a printed dress on, but not a dress piece. I’m not sure how they could have done this better. A slope piece for the dress would be too long and I think the cloth piece wouldn’t work as she has the long coat on over her dress. We’ll go with it. You get a little dalmatian too which is a nice addition.

Robin Hood seems a little tall for a fox. Maybe they should have done some shorter legs. The head mold looks pretty accurate along with the tail. He has a bow and arrow, but no quiver since it probably wouldn’t fit with the tail piece.

Prince John looks pretty accurate as compared to the movie. The sac he’s holding I assume is a sac of money.

Experiment 626 Stitch is awesome with the 4 arms. I like it!

Baymax… didn’t know who he was… we watched the movie and now I know. I think the minifigure is a little small as he was much larger than the people he was with in the movie. I’m not sure how the designers would have done that though. he comes with his charging pack.

Evil Queen works well for what you’d expect her to be. The mirror is great with the minifigure head printed on it.

Set Review - #71037 - Series 24 - Collectible Minifigures

Yes, the LEGO Group has gotten me addicted to Collectible Minifigures. I didn’t participate in series one through nine as I thought they were ridiculous. Then on a whim I purchased a few from series 10 and I was hooked. Now it’s series 24 and here I am. This series was released in the US on 1 January 2023, but if you follow any of the online sites or feeds, many people found them in stores before then. They retail for $4.99 each and there are 12 minifigures total in this series. I ended up purchasing three of the boxes of six minifigures for a total of 18 minifigures. I assumed there would be a lot of doubles as always. My kiddos helped me open them up and assemble them and we were all shocked that we found all 12 minifigures within 18 random bags. WHAT!?!?!?!? Crazy!!!

I hope you have the same luck if you are a collector too.

Overall, I think this is a great series. I prefer the non-licensed ones and was glad to see another round of them come out. My thoughts on each one are below.

The Football Referee will be popular for fans of the Great Ball Contraption (GBC) as it comes with a LEGO soccer ball. I don’t know when the last time it was we got one of these in a set, but I expect it to show up in GBC displays over the next year.

The Conservationist has lots of great printing and molding and comes with a fun little koala. I like the addition to the LEGO animal kingdom.

I didn’t realize this was an Orc. I thought it was a alligator like creature. This is away from the type of builds I usually like, but it’s still not a bad figure. The shield is interesting with the new print on it.

The Robot Warrior has an interesting blaster/weapon made of minifigure roller skates. I like it. The helmet is fun too with the slot for the eyes to peak out underneath.

Newspaper Kid comes with a 2x2 printed tile of a newspaper, a sling shot to throw the paper, and a bag to hold papers. I’m not a huge fan of this minifigure, but I can see how it could be useful for someone trying to build an early 1900s MOC scene or maybe even Steam Punk themed builds.

The Rockin’ Horse Rider isn’t overly exciting other than you get a minifigure sized rocking horse that can actually rock back and forth. It also has a stud on the bottom so you can put it on the stand.

Series 22 had a Chili Pepper costume and Series 20 had a Pea Pod costume. Now we get a Carrot Mascot. I wonder which veggie we’ll get in Series 26? This one is fun and I like the Farmers Market sign to go with it.

Potter… no not Harry Potter. This one is an actual clay… I mean brick potter making a bowl. I like the do rag on the head.

Gotta love how LEGO keeps finding ways to bring back the Castle theme without bringing back the Castle theme. The Falconer gives everyone another Black Falcon minifigure. This one comes with a falcon and a bow and arrow.

The Rococo Aristocrat is interesting. Not my favorite character, but definitely something different and it comes with a small dog.

T-Rex Costume Fan could be a fun addition to a Jurassic Park MOC or maybe a Halloween MOC. It’s a neat costume that is different from what we’ve seen in the past.

Last, but certainly not least, the Brown Astronaut and Spacebaby. As a Space fan, this one is awesome. Besides the chance to add a brown minifigure to the classic space collection, the fact that you now get a baby too is just awesome. The miniature air tank and the little helmet. So cute! I expect this one to be popular based on how much I’ve seen it posted online.
