Brickheadz

Set Review - #40677-1: Prisoner of Azkaban™ Figures - BrickHeadz

We have another Brickheadz Harry Potter themed multi-figure set for 2024 after 2022’s #40560-1: Professors at Hogwarts™. This one is #40677-1: Prisoner of Azkaban™ Figures. It was released on 1 March 2024 for $49.99. It contains 697 pieces which works out to $0.072 per piece. This set has figures from the third book/movie to include another Harry and Hermione Brickheadz, but our first Sirius, a Patronus, and a Dementor.

The box is standard with the Brickheadz shown on the front and then in a different order on the back.

The box contains nine numbered parts bags and then an envelope with the instructions inside.

There is an instruction booklet for each Brickheadz figure as shown here.

#221 - Harry Potter™

First up is Harry. Nothing super out of the ordinary from other past Brickheadz. He has the printed scar, glasses, and black hair. His shirt has a mud stain and then some stripes on the sleeves. There’s also a 1x2 tile printed as a chocolate bar. He’s holding a wand which is made differently to include a part to clip on the end. Then you attach a translucent piece to make it look like he’s giving a patronus charm which is cool. Harry is on the standard base for a Brickheadz figure.

#222 - Hermione Granger™

Next up is Hermione. Other than the charm that is supposed to be a necklace which holds the time turner, there isn’t much different about her. It’s the standard Brickheadz build.

#223 Stag Patronus™

This one was a fun build. Between the light blue color and then the translucent blue pieces, it’s a cool design. Also it’s not your average shape of a person which is a nice change. The figure doesn’t balance well without the stand as the head is not centered so it’s a bit front heavy. It uses some different parts too which nice.

#224 - Dementor™

This one is different as it’s a magical creature instead of a person. The center of the figure is clear pieces which is not usual and then the face has a hole in the center which is different for Brickheadz. Instead of making hair, they recreated the cape/headscarf type thing the Dementor wears. It’s not the greatest of characters to re-create, but it’s cool to see something different besides the three main Harry Potter characters in different clothing.

#225 - Sirius Black™

Last up is Sirius. He comes in his prison garb and is pretty simple, but you can see Sirius in the look. I like the use of SNOT on the face and the studs pointing down for the beard. The shirt is printed for some more detail.

Overall, I wouldn’t get this set unless you are a Harry Potter fan or a Brickheadz collector. Nothing overly spectacular about this one. On a price per brick standpoint, it’s reasonably priced, but the pieces are all rather small so it doesn’t seem like you’re getting a lot for $50. I recommend waiting for a sale, double Insider Points, or a cool GWP before scooping this one up.

For fun, I lined up all of my built Harry Potter Brickheadz for a picture. I think I have a few more put away in a box somewhere. I’ll find them at some point and take another picture.

Happy building!

Set Review - 2023 Harry Potter Brickheadz Sets - #40616-1, #40617-1, and #40618-1

Three Harry Potter themed Brickheadz sets were released for 2023 on 1 June. Instead of three separate reviews, I decided to combine them all into one. I don’t collect all of the Brickheadz sets, but I do get the ones that interest me. As a Harry Potter fan, I grabbed these during the LEGO “Back to Hogwarts” sale event. Overall, they are in line with the Brickheadz theme. If you aren’t a fan of them or of Harry Potter, don’t bother with these. If you are a fan, look for an opportunity to grab them. Maybe during a double VIP point event or if you can find them on sale somewhere.

The first one is #40616-1: Harry Potter and Cho Chang. These are Brickheadz numbers 207 and 208. The set contains 267 pieces and retails for $19.99 which works out to $0.074 per piece. The box front shows the two characters. The back (not pictured) shows the same and how you can place the characters on a plate as a base. The set comes with four parts bags numbered one and two. There are two instruction booklets included. One for each character.

Not too much to talk about for the build. They are the standard Brickheadz build. Both characters come with printed tiles for the eyes and front of the shirt. Harry has a printed tile for the scar on his forehead. Harry’s face is a fun build as you install some pieces that are not clipped in by stud connections. They just rest in place and then other pieces hold them there. A fun little technique. If you don’t like the characters, LEGO always puts a few interesting colored pieces in the center and then I’m a fan of the dark red and blue colors as you get a few of those as well.

Next up is #40617-1 - Draco Malfoy and Cedric Diggory. Draco is #209 and Cedric #210. This set also retails for $19.99 and contains 262 pieces. This works out to $0.076 per piece. Similar to the previous set, the box has the characters on the front and the numbers and names of each on the bottom of the front. Inside are four parts bags numbered one and two with two bags for each number. There is an instruction booklet for each character.

The builds for these are not super interesting. Their hair is slightly different, but beyond that and brick colors, these builds are pretty similar. I guess the goal was to get students from each house so students from two houses in the last set and then the last two houses here. One difference is Draco is holding a gold trophy cup so you do get that additional part. As I mentioned at the beginning, if you’re a Brickheadz collector or a Harry Potter fan, then go get this set. If not, I’d avoid this one as it’s not super exciting to build and doesn’t have a ton of unique pieces.

Last set is #40618-1 - Kingsley Shacklebolt and Nymphadora Tonks. Kingsley is #211 and Nymphadora is #212. This set also retails for $19.99 and contains 250 pieces. It has the lowest piece count of the three sets which puts it at $0.079 per piece. Still not bad, but the worst ratio of the three. As with the other two sets, similar box art and contents inside the box.

Of the three sets, I enjoyed building this one the most. Kingsley has his head cover which is a cool looking printed, sloped piece that goes all around his head. It’s obviously not completely round, but I like how they created that effect. Nymphadora uses a fun lighter colored purple for the hair which was a nice change to see a different color. Beyond these two bits, they still mostly follow the Brickheadz standard so you’re not getting much else super exciting. Like the other two sets, great for Brickheadz and Potter fans, not so much for everyone else. Thankfully, there is a ton of other sets out there you can pick up based on what you like so it’s not a big deal.

Happy building!

Set Review - #40619-1: EVE and WALL-E- Brickhead

Another Brickheadz aet for review… This one is #40619-1: EVE and WALL-E. It contains 155 pieces and retails for $14.99 in the US. This works out to $0.097 per piece. It was released on 31 January 2023 in the US and so far I have only seen it from LEGO, but not at Walmart or Target. Maybe that will change? This one is not branded for the Disney 100 anniversary, but its release happens to coincide with the anniversary. For those of you not aware, this is not the first WALL-E set. The first was #21303-1: WALL-E from the LEGO Ideas line.

The box is rather small, but this is to be expected for a set containing 155 pieces. The front of the box shows the two Brickheadz characters while the back gives the same shot and shows that there are bases for each character. Also of note, WALL-E is #193 and EVE is #194 in the Brickheadz line.

The set contains three parts bags. Two are #1 and one is #2. There are also two 8x8 black plates which are separate. Instruction booklet one is WALL-E and goes with bag one. Instruction booklet two goes with bag two and is EVE.

And here are the two. WALL-E has his lunch box and the plant in a boot. I think the designers capture the shape well and did a good job making decisions on the details to include or not. The eyes and sockets have the same shape, but they do not move around. Also the neck joint is there so you can have the head look up/down. The tracks are a good representation of the character and they are attached to the side while clear plates are used to keep WALL-E attached to the display plate. Besides the printed eyes, he also has a printed brick with the WALL-E logo.

EVE “floats” on a clear brick and captures the character well. White Nexo Knight shields are used for the arms and she has no printed piece. Interestingly, they added a small plant piece inside to be the space where she is supposed to store plants that she finds which is a fun detail you only know about if you build the set.

I included a picture of the side and back just for awareness, but there aren’t a lot of details you can see there.

Overall, they are good Brickheadz representations of the two characters. I recommend getting them if you are a Brickheadz collector or a fan of the movie or Disney stuff in general. Otherwise, I’d avoid this one as it doesn’t offer a whole lot else.

Happy building!

Set Review - #40560-1: Professors at Hogwarts™ - Brickheadz - Harry Potter

Here are Brickheadz numbers 170 to 173. Can you believe we’ve had that many already? #40560-1: Professors at Hogwarts™ was released in the US on 27 June 2022. It retails for $39.99 and contains 601 pieces. This works out to $0.067 per piece which isn’t too bad. The set contains four of the professors who teach at Hogwarts to expand on the Harry Potter characters that have been offered in BrickHeadz form besides the three main characters.

Onto the review…

The front shows the 4 figures with the BrickHeadz and Harry Potter logos. It also gives the number of each character. The back then just shows the same figures and that you can remove them from a base that you build out of plates.

My set showed up damaged (thanks FedEx). There was a big hole tear in the box and one of the parts bags was open. Thankfully nothing ended up missing during the build.

The contents are four numbered parts bags with two bags each for eight total. Each numbered bag is tied to an instruction booklet so you could build this set with other people if desired.

Bag number one is tied to Brickheadz number 170 Severus Snape™. The design seems to capture the character pretty well. You get a few 1x5 tile pieces which is fun if you are like me and still enjoy seeing them. He also comes with a flask for building potions. The unique printed tile is a purple tile in the front that is his shirt.

Next up is bag two which builds number 171 Minerva McGonagall™. My daughter built this one and realized she clipped the hat on wrong as compared to the instructions, but I’m okay with the large feather pieces being in the back so we left it. Are the feather pieces from Ninjago? Or Monkie Kid?

This one has two printed tiles in the front as part of her robe and also a gold ring attached as a necklace. The set comes with an extra one which is a bonus if you are trying to create a “Lord of the Rings” scene. There is a gold cup that the figure holds which is also a nice addition. I don’t think it’s too rare, but they are often clear versus gold.

Bag three builds number 172 Alastor Moody. There was some interesting SNOT work to get the brown band on his forehead. While building it, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, but it looks good in the end. You get a printed eye piece element and then his shirt/jacket is a printed tile. There are a few 1x5s as well. The hair portion is fun to assemble with the various curves and angles. I think they did a good job trying to recreate the movie character here.

Lastly, bag four builds number 173 Sybill Trelawney. I like how they integrated the cloth headband the character wears and the glasses are fun with the nose bridge in the middle incorporated into the face as a brick. The hair is another fun section to build with all of the angles and curves that end up coming together in the end. There’s a printed tile in the front as her shirt and she’s holding a tea cup.

Here they are all together. Not a bad bunch if you are a fan of Brickheadz or the Harry Potter theme. I am not a collector of Brickheadz and I only purchase sets that interest me. I’m a fan of the Harry Potter stuff and I added these to my collection of previous Harry Potter Brickheadz. For the price per piece the cost isn’t too bad and if you wait until closer to the end of this set’s shelf life, you might be able to get it on discount.

Happy building!

Set Review - #40421-1: Belle Bottom, Kevin and Bob - Brickheadz - Minions

I recently reviewed #40420-1: Stuart, Gru, and Otto. This one is the second of two Minions related Brickheadz for 2021. It’s #40421-1: Belle Bottom, Kevin, and Bob. This set was released on 26 April 2021 in the US for $19.99. It contains 309 pieces which works out to $0.065 per piece. This is slightly better than the other set which only has 244 pieces, but is sold for the same amount. Like #40420-1, this set contains a standard size Brickheadz figure and two Minions. I have not seen the movie this is from so I do not know who Belle Bottom is or why the Minions are in orange, but at some point I’m sure my kids will push to see this movie.

The box shows the three figures on the front and which number they are in the Brickheadz series. The larger person figure is in the center, but out of numerical order in the series. Why they didn’t just change the numbering, I don’t know. The back shows that the Brickheadz go on a stand and then advertises for #40420-1 in case you weren’t aware of it yet.

40421_box_front.JPG
40421_box_back.JPG

The set contains three parts bags. Two are numbered one and then a number two bag. It also has two instruction booklets to go along with each numbered set of bags.

40421_contents.JPG

The first set of bags builds Belle Bottom. Her hairdo is done quite well and I like how the designers used levels of plates and studs to achieve the effect. They also used the LEGO gold ring as earrings which is the first time I’ve seen this done. I like the parts usage. Other than that, it’s your standard Brickheadz build of a character that is only in one of the Minions movies.

40421_build1a.JPG
30321_build1b.JPG

Next up in bag two is Kevin. He’s a very simple build with not much detail. He is slightly taller than most Minions, but not as tall as Belle Bottom. Kevin is holding a nunchuck for a reason that I am sure is apparent in the movie. His front has a printed orange tile and then along his arms are printed stripes. That’s about it for him.

40421_build2a.JPG
40421_build2b.JPG

Last up is Bob. He’s Kevin, only shorter, no hair, and no nunchucks.

40421_build3a.JPG
40421_build3b.JPG

So there you go… If you are a Brickheadz fan or Minions fan, scoop up this set. If not, it’s not really worth it in my opinion. The price per piece is slightly better than #40421-1, but we haven’t seen it go on sale. Maybe it will for Black Friday?

Happy Building!

Set Review - #40420-1: Stuart, Gru, and Otto - Brickheadz - Minions

I think this is the most Brickheadz sets I’ve built in a year ever! #40420-1: Stuart, Gru, and Otto was released on 26 April 2021 in the US. It contains 244 pieces and retails for $19.99 in the US. This works out to 0.082 per piece. This set contains multiple Brickheadz figures like the last two Harry Potter Brickheadz sets I reviewed (#40495-1 and #40496-1). Like those two, there are varying sized figures versus them all being the same size.

The front of the box shows the three figures. Gru is #104, Stuart is #105, and Otto is #106. I’m not sure how they develop the numbering, but Gru is in the middle in the pictures while the two Minions are on the side. Not a big deal. Just looks odd to have the numbers out of order. The back shows the Brickheadz being attached to the base that you build. Then it shows set #40421-1: Belle Bottom, Kevin, and Bob. This is also the case on the back of one of the instruction booklets. Might as well use your products to advertise your products.

40420_box_front.JPG
40420_box_back.JPG

The set contains two parts bags and two instruction booklets.

40420_contents.JPG

The first bag builds Gru. It’s the younger Gru so not as tall and the nose isn’t as pointy. I think they captured his likeness well in Brickheadz form. He has on the jacket with scarf. Like each Brickheadz, there’s a printed tile on the front. His hair is mostly smooth with only a few studs showing on his left side. They also captured the tuft of hair sticking up on the back of his head. He sadly is not holding one of his clever weapons, but you could always build one of your own.

40420_build1a.JPG
40420_build1b.JPG

Next is Otto. I’m not familiar with this Minion. He’s either new to this movie or played smaller roles in the other movies and I didn’t pay attention. Otto is a pretty simple build. Not a lot of detail there except for the printed eyes , a printed tile for the pocket to his overalls, and some hands. He is holding a gold coin (must be tied to the movie somehow). His hair is just a 1x1 plate.

40420_build2a.JPG
40420_build2b.JPG

Stuart is built last. It’s a very similar build to Otto only slightly thinner. His hair is a printed 1x3 tile and he has the same printed pocket. Only one eye and he’s not holding anything.

40420_build3a.JPG
40420_build3b.JPG

Here are the three characters. I only recommend buying this one if you are a collector of Brickheadz or you like the Minions movies. Otherwise, not a lot of excitement in this set. The build was just your standard Brickheadz build and there aren’t a lot of exciting pieces. It’s about average in terms of price, but with any luck, you’ll sere this one on sale in the future.

Happy building!

Set Review - #40496-1: Voldemort, Nagini & Bellatrix - Brickheadz - Harry Potter

Onto the second of the two 2021 Harry Potter themed Brickheadz…

This one is #40496-1: Voldemort, Nagini, and Bellatrix. It was released on 5 June 2021 in the US and retails for $24.99. It contains 344 pieces and works out to $0.073 per piece. It must not be selling well because the rumor mill is saying the set will be retiring in December 2021. That’s a pretty short shelf life for a set. Interestingly, #40495-1 has about 120 more parts for the same price.

The box looks pretty similar to #40495-1. The front shows the three characters and highlights that Lord Voldemort is #143, Nagini is #144, and Bellatrix Lestrange is #145. The back shows the three characters again and then on the right shows that you can place each one on an included plate.

40496_box_front.JPG
40496_box_back.JPG

The set contains four parts bags with three instruction booklets. Bag 1 is Voldemort with the first booklet. Bag 2 is Nagini with the second booklet. Bags 3 and 4 are Bellatrix with the last booklet.

40496_contents.JPG

The first bag is Voldemort. Not a whole lot to this build since he’s bald and has few features on his head. There’s a small print for a his nose, he gets the two Brickheadz eyes and that’s about it. His shirt has a print like most other Brickheadz and he comes with a white wand.. While there isn’t much to the build, you do get a decent number of the dark green/forest green colored bricks considering the size of the set.

40496_build1a.JPG
40496_build1b.JPG

The second build is Nagini the snake. He doesn’t look as mean in Brickheadz form. The build is the smallest of the three, but I think they did a good job representing a snake considering the medium. The curled up bottom and then the head sticking up are very evident. Plus you get some dark green and sand green pieces.

40496_build2a.JPG
40496_build2b.JPG

Bellatrix is the last build and initially I wasn’t impressed. There didn’t seem to be much to her other than stacking bricks on top of each other. Then you get to her hair. If you watch the movies she is in, you’ll see that she has a pretty big, wild stash of hair. The use of 2x2 round plates does a good job emulating her mop and I like how they have it draped to the side, partially covering her face. She also has a printed front and a minifigure scale wand.

40496_build3a.JPG
40496_bujild3b.JPG

Here are the final builds of all three. Overall, nothing too special about this set. Definitely pick it up if you collect Brickheadz or if you’re a Potter fan. Otherwise, the fan base must not be as interested in the bad guys from the books/movies and they are going to retire it quickly. I’d rate this one middle of the road. No major complaints, but nothing to be overly excited about.

What are your thoughts?

Happy building!

Set Review - #40495-1: Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid - Brickheadz - Harry Potter

I’m not a collector of all Brickheadz, but I do pick up a set here and there when it interests me. As a Harry Potter fan, the return of Harry Potter themed Brickheadz made me jump in. Congrats on the sale LEGO!

#40495-1: Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Hagrid was released on 5 June 2021 in the US. It contains 466 pieces and retails for $24.99. That works out to $0.054/piece which isn’t too bad.

The set portrays the figures as listed in the name. Hagrid is portrayed at what I would call the normal or standard scale Brickheadz size and then the three students are portrayed at a smaller scale. Let’s get into the review.

Both sides of the box show the Brickheadz only in a different order on each side. The front notes that these are Brickheadz numbers 139 through 142. It’s hard to believe they’ve made that many already.

40495_box_front.jpg
40495_box_back.jpg

The contents are five parts bags and four instruction booklets. Hagrid is first with two parts bags. Then Harry with one bag, Hermione with one bag, and then Ron with one bag.

50595_contents.jpg

The first bag is Hagrid. He is built in the standard Brickheadz fashion with an internal structure to allow for plates and tiles to face in each direction. I think they captured his likeness well in terms of his hair, face, and clothes. The only issue I have is I don’t think the scale is right. Hagrid is much taller than most of the adult characters portrayed in the movies and I think he should have been made to be taller. He is taller than the children, but not taller as an adult. Not a big deal, just a nitpick.

Hagrid comes with a minifigure scale umbrella. It looks tiny on the Brickheadz, but it gets the intent across.

Like many Brickheadz, it comes with a printed brick to add some detail. In this case it is his shirt. He has the standard Brickheadz eyes with the larger square and then the smaller square offset at an angle.

40495_build1a.jpg
40495_build1b.jpg

Bag two builds Harry. He is in his student uniform with a cape. The uniform has a printed brick for the collar. There is also a printed tile for his scar on his forehead. Harry has two 2x2 round tiles for eyes with the standard Brickheadz eye print along with some white and then black to show that he is wearing glasses. The glasses don’t attach to his ears (which don’t exist anyways), but it gets the point across.

I think they portray Harry well and I have no complaints. The only improvement I would make is on his right side towards the bottom, there is a stud with a hole that sticks out. I thought it looked out of place, but it can easily be covered up with a leftover tile from one of the other builds. Problem solved!

40495_build2a.jpg
40495_build2b.jpg

Bag three builds Hermione. She is similar in scale to Harry, has the same school uniform on, and has a minifigure scale wand in her hand. Not much to say about the Brickhead. I think it looks okay and portrays the character well.

40495_build3a.jpg
40495_build3b.jpg

The last bag builds Ron. Now that you’ve built Harry and Hermione, the process is pretty similar only with different colored hair. The only comment I’ll make is that it looks like he could use an extra tile on either side of the back of his head. I think the stud there looks out of place. Especially if you compare it to Hermione who has all slopes as hair on the sides.

40495_build4a.jpg
40495_build4b.jpg

So there are all four Brickheadz. The build goes quickly and if you’ve build Brickheadz before, then you are familiar with the pattern.

I would pick these up if you are a Brickheadz fan or a Harry Potter fan (or both). If you’re not one of the two, I would save your funds for another set. The build isn’t overly exciting and it’s not like you get a ton of great pieces. The pricing is decent, but later in their life, pay attention for sales. I could see a $5 off deal being run at Amazon.com.

What are your thoughts?

Happy building!

Set Review - #40367-1: Lady Liberty - Brickheadz

It’s been a while since I picked up a Brickheadz set to build. LEGO was producing these things like crazy for a while and they’ve dialed it back quite a bit. Most of them are now not part of licensed themes which I think I prefer. Set #40367-1: Lady Liberty was released on 12 June 2019 in the US for $9.99. It contains 153 pieces which works out to be $0.065 per piece. I got it from LEGO during their Black Friday sale for $7.99.

Onto the review…

The box shows the set on the front and then the back shows some Statue of Liberty versions from around the world to include Paris and in Japan.

40367_box_front.jpg
40367_box_back.jpg

The set contains 4 small, unnumbered parts bags, an instruction booklet, and a 6x6 black plate for the base.

40367_contents.jpg

Given the size the the build, it didn’t make sense to break the build up so here’s the final set. The build definitely fits the style of Brickheadz while still capturing the likeness of the Statue of Liberty. The right arm with the torch is tucked in close versus being raised up like the actual statue. Also the face and eyes match other Brickheadz.

There is some detail to capture the likeness of the Statue of Liberty, but not a ton. What would you expect in such a small set? The crown looks a bit odd in my opinion. The view on the front of the box looks okay, but from the top down it looks a bit rough. Another note, there is not base to the statue like in the actual statue, but as they call this “Lady Liberty” it should be expected that it is just Lady Liberty and not the base.

Overall, it’s not a bad set. If you’re a Brickheadz fan, I’d definitely pick this one up. For non-Brickheadz fans, it’s up to you. One of my reasons is below…

40367_build1.jpg
40367_build2.jpg
40367_build3.jpg

Okay so I thought it was fun how LEGO has two different representations of the same item. One is a bit more realistic, but they both still capture the same thing. They even have the same torch flame piece. I need to build some kind of stand for the Brickheadz version though.

Happy building!
